What is the definition of a first-generation student?
For the purposes of this scholarship fund, a first-generation student is defined as someone whose parent(s) did not complete a 4-year college or university degree in the United States, in the traditional manner. Even if a sibling completes their degree, the applicant is still considered a first-generation student.
Can funds acquired through a Developing Gateways award be applied directly to tuition?
No, funds awarded are not eligible to be applied directly to college tuition, but rather incidentals such as application fees, books, room and board, etc.
How many awards will be given out per cycle?
The number of scholarships awarded is at the discretion of the Developing Gateways leadership and is subject to change.
How long do I have to accept once I receive notification of an award?
Award recipients will have 10 business days to sign and return the award letter once received.
How long does it take to receive funds once I have signed and returned the award letter?
A check will be sent via certified mail within 10 business days of receipt of the signed award letter.
Am I required to appear on the Developing Gateways Website as an award recipient?
Yes, each scholarship recipient is asked to provide a personal image and brief biography to appear on the Developing Gateways website so that we may feature your story and celebrate your accomplishments.
